Starlight ceilings — a night sky, engineered into your ceiling.
Custom fibre-optic starlight ceilings for your home theatre — designed around your room, built into acoustic panels, and installed by us. Real depth, a gentle twinkle, and stars mapped to your space. Not a kit off the shelf.
What goes into a Prime Theatres starlight ceiling
Every ceiling is built from the same quality parts, then tuned to your room. Here’s what makes the effect look real rather than like scattered dots.
LED fibre-optic light engine
Hundreds of optical fibres are lit from a single long-life LED source. It runs cool, sips power, and there are no globes to change above your head — years of nightly use with no maintenance.
28 stars per panel, all different
Each panel carries 28 fibre-optic points in a mix of diameters and a random layout — bright hero stars, faint distant ones, and no repeating pattern. That variation is what reads as a genuine night sky.
Twinkle, colour & shooting stars
Add a soft twinkle, a slow colour drift, or the occasional shooting star — dialled in to taste and controlled from a remote or your phone. Lights down, and the sky quietly appears.
Acoustic by design
Panels are finished in a deep black, light-absorbing flocked surface that also damps reflections — so the ceiling looks bottomless and your theatre sounds tighter at the same time.
Fully custom. Properly designed. Installer-friendly.
- Designed around your room. We start from your exact dimensions and set out a star map — density, brightness and constellation placement planned before a single panel goes up. Use the planner below to see your own layout.
- Modular panels, clean install. Stars are pre-built into 1200 × 600 mm panels that screw to your plaster ceiling or drop into a suspended grid, then chain back to one light source. Fast to fit, flush to finish.
- Built around your services. We plan the field around ceiling speakers, downlights, vents and projector mounts — and trim panels where a service needs to pass through. Sorted at design stage.
- Two ways to have it. A tidy panelised starfield at a set price, or a fully hand-run galaxy across the whole ceiling for an edge-to-edge sky (below).

Enter your room to see how many panels it needs, the layout, and your all-in price. Each panel is $370 including installation.

Your room, panel count and price attach automatically — we’ll reply with a firm quote and a consultation time.
Indicative only — final price confirmed after a site measure. Panels are counted whole (no cutting); services like speakers and downlights are planned in at design stage.
Want the whole ceiling as one galaxy?
Beyond panels, we hand-run a bespoke galaxy straight into your ceiling — thousands of individually placed fibres, custom constellations, a Milky Way band, and depth a grid simply can’t reach. Every one is drawn up to your room and signed off before we start.
Because each fibre is placed by hand, allow around 8 weeks from design sign-off to installation. Worth the wait — it becomes the centrepiece of the room.

Starlight ceiling FAQ
How many stars are in each panel?
Every Prime Theatres panel carries 28 individual fibre-optic star points in a random layout, so no two panels look the same and the finished ceiling reads as a natural night sky rather than a repeating grid. Across a typical theatre that adds up to hundreds of stars.
How big are the panels, and how many will I need?
Each panel is 1200 × 600 mm and fully modular. We plan your ceiling as a field of whole panels — the planner above shows exactly how many your room takes and the layout they’ll sit in.
Are all the stars the same brightness?
No — we run a mix of fibre diameters, so you get brighter hero stars and finer, more distant ones. That variation is what gives the ceiling real depth instead of a flat sheet of identical dots.
Can the stars twinkle or change colour?
They can. Beyond a steady starfield we can add a gentle twinkle, slow colour shifts, or the occasional shooting star — set to your taste and controlled from a remote or your phone.
How much power do they use, and what does it cost to run?
Very little. The system runs on low-voltage LED light engines, so it stays cool and sips power. Leaving the stars on through a whole movie costs next to nothing, and there are no globes to replace overhead.
How are they switched on and off?
The panels wire back to a single light source that can be run from a wall switch, remote or phone app. Turn the room lights down and the sky quietly appears.
Do the panels help with sound?
Yes — a genuine bonus. The panels are finished in a deep black, light-absorbing flocked surface that also damps reflections, so the ceiling looks bottomless and helps your theatre sound tighter and more controlled.
Can you fit around speakers, downlights or a projector?
Absolutely. We plan the star field around ceiling speakers, vents, downlights and projector mounts, and panels can be trimmed where a service needs to pass through. It’s all handled at the design stage.
How are they installed — and is installation included?
Panels screw onto your existing plaster ceiling or drop into a suspended grid, then chain back to one light source. Because the stars are pre-built into the panels, the install is fast and clean — no threading thousands of fibres overhead. Installation is included in the $370-per-panel price.
What’s the difference between panels and a full custom galaxy?
Panels give you a tidy, defined starfield quickly and at a set price. A full custom galaxy is hand-run across the entire ceiling — thousands of individually placed fibres, custom constellations and Milky Way depth, designed to your room. The galaxy option carries roughly an 8-week lead time from design sign-off.
How long does it last?
The LED light engines are rated for many years of nightly use, and the fibre optics themselves don’t wear out. It’s a genuine fit-and-forget feature.
